Student Academic Services Users Group Communication

Jessica Alberhasky, Office of the Registrar, shared a reminder about the Student Academic Services Users Group new communication plan.  Information about subscribing to the group is available here:  Meeting times, agendas and minutes will also be shared here.

Section Contact Hours Validation

Jessica also provided an update on Section Contact Hours Validation. When entering or updating time and location lines in MAUI Offerings Planner, contact hours will be calculated and added as each line item is entered. This calculation is section specific so it will not calculate related sections.  Departments must meet or exceed contact hours they have listed.  Contact hours can be calculated before and after they are submitted to workflow.

Course Approval 2.0

Chris Carlson, Office of the Registrar and Becky Tjelmeland, ITS announced that Course Approval forms will be moving to Universal Workflow.  They will present the new forms at the December Student Academic Users Group meeting.  Training sessions will be offered in December and will review updates made to the Add, Drop, and Revise course forms. The training sessions will also provide information about setting up custom office routes in Universal Workflow.

Learning Centers Update

Becky, ITS and Julie Fell, Office of the Registrar provided information about Learning Centers that are now tied to Programs of Study.  In the past, Qualifiers were used to identify a location associated with program of study.  Qualifiers continue to exist but will no longer be used to designate a location.  Programs determined to be offered via distance education are required to have a Learning Center that describes the location or modality of a program (i.e. Iowa Center for Higher Education or Online).

Announcements Shared at the November Meeting:

  • Early Registration for Winter and Spring is November 7 – 18, 2016.
  • Reminder – Prerequisites are enforced during registration. More information is available on our website
  • November 21, 2016 is the deadline to submit course approval forms for Fall 2017 courses requiring changes in essential course data (subject acronym, course number, credit hours, cross-referenced courses, and administrative home.
  • November 28, 2106 – February 5, 2017 the Course Offerings Planner will be closed to editing.  The Planner is always open for instructor, textbook, descriptions, requirements, recommendations, restrictions, registration information editing, updating waitlist plans, and updating syllabus information.
