Tuition and Fee Assessment for: ‘0’ Semester Hours; Audit; Arranged; and Reduced‐Credit Registrations

Registering for '0' semester hours in a course does not eliminate assessment of tuition and fees for the course!

Tuition and fee assessment is based on the number of semester hours for which a course is offered, with a minimum of 1 fee hour per course. In addition, tuition and fee tables have a 1 s.h. minimum rate, even if a student registers for only '0' semester hours. See Tuition and Fees Information page.

Normally, the number of fee hours assessed is the same as the number of semester hours for each course registration. However, fee hours does not always equal semester hours, as explained below.

If a course is offered for 'arranged' s.h., tuition assessment is based on the number of semester hours for which you register, with the exception that '0' s.h. is assessed as 1 fee hour.

If a course is offered for '0' s.h., or one of the semester hour options is '0' and you register for '0' s.h., you will be assessed for 1 fee hour.

If a course is offered for a set number of hours (for example, 3 s.h. with no options) and you register to audit the course, you will be assessed for the number of semester hours for which the course is offered. For example, if a course is listed for 3 s.h. and you register for '0' s.h., you will be assessed for 3 fee hours.

If a course is available for multiple semester hours (e.g., 2 or 3 s.h.), and you register to audit the course, you will be assessed for the lowest semester hours for which the course is offered. For example, if a course is offered for 2 or 3 s.h. and you register for '0' s.h., you will be assessed for 2 fee hours.

Exceptions:

  • Students who register for '0' s.h. in IIEP courses are assessed the IIEP program fee plus mandatory fees, based on how many IIEP courses they register for.
  • Registrations in hospital certificate or study abroad programs are assessed according to which program the student registers for.
  • Zero s.h. internships are not assessed fee hours.

Reduced-Credit Registration for Graduate Students:

Graduate students may register for fewer semester hours than the number of semester hours for which a course is offered in the session, but tuition is assessed at the rate of the minimum number of semester hours for which the course is listed. For example, if a course is listed for 3 s.h. and you register for 2 s.h., you will be assessed for 3 fee hours.
