Receiving Your Diploma

University of Iowa graduates will receive one 8.5" x 11" diploma, per degree.  Diplomas for new graduates will be sent to the students' Diploma Delivery Address approximately 6 weeks after graduation.  If students do not list a diploma delivery address, the diploma will be mailed to the Residing Address they list on MyUI at the end of their graduating session.

The default delivery method is United States Postal Service First Class mail.  USPS First works well for domestic delivery, however, international students may be best served by choosing Fed Ex delivery ($45 fee charged to U-bill) in order to expedite delivery and receive a tracking number.  USPS International mail is not reliable and there is no tracking number.  If the new graduate is still in the Iowa City area 6 weeks after graduation they can also choose to pick up the diploma in person (with photo ID).

The University of Iowa will not issue a diploma to graduates with past-due U-Bill accounts.  If your account was past due at the time diplomas were mailed, but has been paid, you should contact Diploma Services at to let us know you have paid your U-Bill balance, so we can order a diploma for you. Students are able to view their U-Bill on MyUI under the Student Records tab, under the heading Finances & Billing.

Diploma Delivery Address

Diplomas are sent to the address the student provided as their Diploma Delivery Address on their degree application in MyUI.  Fall degree applicants must update their Diploma Mailing Address on MyUI before the deadline on April 26, 2020.

In MyUI, under the Student Information tab, go to Student Life Management and click on the Degree Application link.  If you have an active degree application on file you will see your Diploma Address on the right side of the screen.  To update the Diploma Delivery Address, click on the (edit) link to the left which will open your application.  Scroll down to Diploma Delivery Information and enter your diploma address here.  Be sure to click on the green Save button at the bottom of the screen.  Following the diploma address you will see Delivery Method options.  Please see additional information for Domestic Diploma Delivery and International Diploma Delivery

Do not send your diploma to a 3rd party address without using c/o (in care of  + name of 3rd party individual).  If the diploma is sent to an incorrect address and it is lost or returned to the Office of the Registrar, it will be necessary for the student to provide a corrected address on MyUI and pay a $10 reissuing fee.  (If you are unsure where you will be residing at that time, you may want to consider having your diploma sent to a parent address.)

If your name is not correct on MyUI, please complete the Name Change Form, (*legal documentation is required for all name changes), submit with the required documentation as stated on the form, and return to the UI Service Center, 2700 UCC
