Receiving Your Diploma
University of Iowa graduates with no outstanding University charges will receive one 8.5" x 11" diploma, per degree earned. Diplomas for new graduates will be sent to the students' Diploma Mailing Address approximately 6 weeks after graduation. If students do not list a Diploma Mailing Address the diploma will be mailed to the Residing Address they list on MyUI at the end of their graduating session.
The University of Iowa will not issue a diploma to graduates with past-due U-Bill accounts. Students should view their U-Bill on MyUI to determine if their account is current or past due. The U-Bill link can be found in MyUI under the Student Records tab, under the heading Finances & Billing. If your account was past due at the time diplomas were mailed, you should contact the Office of the Registrar at email@example.com to let us know you have paid your U-Bill balance, so we can order a diploma for you.
Diploma Mailing Address
To update the Diploma Mailing Address, login to MyUI. Under the Student Information heading, click on Degree Application. If you have an active degree application on file, it will be visible on this screen. The current Diploma Mailing Address is displayed on the right, and an (edit) link is displayed on the left. If the Diploma Mailing Address needs modification, please click the (edit) link, scroll down to Diploma Mailing Information, and amend the appropriate fields. Click the green 'Save Changes' button at the bottom left side of the screen. Once the deadline for updating the diploma mailing address has passed on December 9, 2016, students should contact Graduation Analysis (319-335-0228) to change their diploma mailing address. If your diploma is sent to an incorrect address and your diploma is lost or returned to the Office of the Registrar, you will be responsible for providing a corrected address on MyUI and paying a $10 reissuing fee.
Graduates listing an international diploma mailing address on their degree application on MyUI may need to wait up to 8 weeks for their diploma to arrive. Fed Ex delivery will be an option for international students wishing to have their diploma delivery expedited with Fed Ex fees charged to the U-Bill. Students listing an international diploma mailing address should watch for an email regarding their diploma delivery options from Diploma Services on December 12, 2016.
Your name will appear on your diploma as it does on your University records (MyUI). If your name is not correct on MyUI, please complete the Name Change Form (*legal documentation is required for all name changes) along with the required documentation as stated on the form, and return to the Registrar's Service Center, 17 Calvin Hall.
If you are not attending your Commencement Ceremony, but would like to obtain a diploma cover, stop by Graduation Analysis, 2 Jessup Hall, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. before you leave campus.
If you'd like to have a diploma cover mailed to you, send an email request to firstname.lastname@example.org. A $6.00 charge will be posted to your U-Bill to cover the postage costs.
