Applications for Resident Classification should be submitted as follows:

  • Students applying for residency for Summer should submit their complete application shortly after May 1 (as soon as your pay statement including the working day of April 30 is available)
    • The qualifying year will be May 13, 2018 - May 11, 2019 and students must work 1,560 hours minimum over the 12 consecutive months, averaging at least 30 hours each week, with Iowa tax withheld from their pay by employers and demonstrated by regular pay statements.
  • Students applying to be new Residents for Fall should submit their complete application shortly after July 1 (as soon as your pay statement including the working day of June 30 is available)
    • The qualifying year will be August 19, 2018 - August 24, 2019 and students must work 1,560 hours minimum over the 12 consecutive months, averaging at least 30 hours each week, with Iowa tax withheld from their pay by employers and demonstrated by regular pay statements.
  • Students applying for residency for Spring should submit their complete application shortly after November 1 (as soon as your pay statement including the working day of October 31 is available)
    • The qualifying year will be January 14, 2018 - January 13, 2019 and students must work 1,560 hours minimum over the 12 consecutive months, averaging at least 30 hours each week, with Iowa tax withheld from their pay by employers and demonstrated by regular pay statements.

Missing a suggested submission date means you may initially receive a non-resident tuition bill which you are obligated to pay.   If you are later determined to be a resident for tuition purposes a credit may be applied to your account.

Applications for the current semester will not be accepted after the 15th day of class.
