Students may change their address by logging into MyUI and navigating to the Address Change/Update link under Student Records>Student Life Management.
If you have never been a University of Iowa student but an employee only, you may complete your name change via the HR Self-Service website or contact them at (319) 335-2380.
Former and current University of Iowa students may change their Official Student name by completing the Name Change Form and submitting to the Office of the Registrar. Changing the Official Student name requires supporting documentation along with the form found below. Changing the Standard name does not require supporting documentation but is still done through the Office of the Registrar. The Office of the Registrar cannot update the Preferred first name - the student does that on the MyUI portal.
Different Name Types
Official Student name is used on your transcript and verifications (official documents). It is also printed on your diploma as well as published in the commencement bulletin.
Standard name is used in the University directory, class lists, billing, and other university correspondence. This is the name used by Payroll to report to the IRS. Students who are also employees, this name must match your social security name.
Preferred first name is used in place of Standard name on class lists and is available for authorized university staff to see on the University Student Record System (MAUI).
