New CeDiploma

A CeDiploma (certified electronic diploma) is an image of your paper diploma, but presented in an electronic, secure and verifiable format. Alumni who graduated prior to 2022 are able to order a CeDiploma through CeCredential Trust. Once in your possession, it can be shared with future employers or used in some countries to obtain a visa. This type of credential may be a good alternative to a notarized diploma, and an Apostille may not be required.

Each CeDiploma can be validated through University of Iowa's CeCredential Validation webpage by future employers, state government licensing agencies, and any other entity that wishes to verify your degree. The document is highly secure, digitally signed and encrypted, making it a trusted and readily accepted credential. For security reasons, the digital credential cannot be printed.

Visit CeCredential Trust for more information.

Notarized Copies of University of Iowa Diplomas

A notarized copy is a photocopy of an existing diploma printed on security paper, notarized, and embossed with the University of Iowa's seal. Notarized copies require a full-sized photocopy or scanned image of a University of Iowa diploma. You must have your original University of Iowa diploma or a duplicate copy of your diploma in order to obtain notarized copies. There is no charge for up to five notarized copies of your diploma.

If you are ordering a duplicate diploma through CeCredential Trust, you will need to order a printed, duplicate diploma.  Wait until you receive your diploma, scan it, and send a PDF copy of the diploma to us as an email attachment to reg-diploma@uiowa.edu or send a photocopy to Degree Services, 2900 UCC, Iowa City, IA, 52242. If you have questions, please call 319-335-0296.

Diploma Name

Your diploma name is based on your selection during the degree application process. When you apply for a degree in MyUI, you can select your official name or preferred name to appear on your diploma.

If your name is not correct in MyUI, please complete the Online Name Change Form (*legal documentation is required for all name changes) and submit it with the required documentation as stated on the form. To appear correctly on your diploma, name changes should be processed by the last day of your graduating semester/session.

International Students

If you are having your diploma certified in another country you will want your diploma name to match your passport name.  If you need to update your official student name, use the Online Name Change Form and submit it with a copy/image of your passport as documentation to support your name change.
