Student Responsibilities
Absence from Class
If a student misses (or will be missing) a class due to illness, emergency, or extenuating circumstances, they should contact their instructor as soon as possible regarding make-up work. A Student Absence Form may be used to report an absence to an instructor. If the absence is in the future, the student should submit the forms to their instructors as soon as they know of the upcoming absence.
If a student is currently absent and it will be five or more consecutive days before they return and the absence is due to illness or other emergency, please contact Registrar Services at 319-384-4300 or registrar@uiowa.edu. If the student is not able to contact the Registrar Services, the absence can be reported by someone else on the student's behalf. Registrar Services will send an email with information on the absence to all of the student's current instructors, advisor, the Academic Support and Retention Office, and Student Care and Assistance. A copy of the email will also be sent to the student. It will still be the student's responsibility to contact instructors as soon as possible regarding make-up work.
If the five or more day absence is in the future or is not reported before the student returns to attending classes then the student is not required to contact Registrar Services. The student would use the Student Absence Form to report the future or past absence to each instructor.
Billing and Payment Student Agreement
This agreement must be signed each semester prior to registration. Students will not be able to register without submitting the Billing and Payment Student Agreement. You will find this agreement in the Financial Aid and Billing section of MyUI, the Billing section has a financial documents link. You will have the ability to verify each session’s agreement through this link. Please read the entire document carefully and contact ubill@uiowa.edu for clarification, if needed.

Health Science Students
All health science students who experience significant clinical exposure as part of their training are required to maintain health insurance sufficient to satisfy minimum standards of coverage throughout each year of attendance at the University of Iowa.
You are automatically billed in monthly installments on your U-Bill for a student-only policy starting in the semester in which you are first registered unless alternative arrangements are made each year by specified deadlines through the Human Resources Office, 120 University Services Building (USB), Suite 40; Phone: 319-335-2676.
International Students
All international (nonimmigrant) students are required to maintain health insurance sufficient to satisfy minimum standards of coverage throughout each year of attendance at the University of Iowa. If you are an international student, you are automatically billed in monthly installments for a student-only policy for each semester you are registered unless alternative arrangements are made by specified deadlines through the Human Resources Office, 120 University Services Building (USB), Suite 40; Phone: 319-335-2676.
Transfer Credits
The registration system can only read your current student information, such as your final grades and your degree audit. It is the student's responsibility to have any credits transferred from another institution. You should request that your transfer credit be sent to Admissions as soon as you are enrolled in the course at another institution and again when your grade is finalized if you do not want to experience a possible delay in registering for a course with a prerequisite that you are taking elsewhere.
Tuition, Fees, and Financial Aid
Enrollment status is the number of hours a student is registered for. Enrollment status impacts your academic record, financial aid eligibility, and tuition and fees. It is your responsibility to know your enrollment status and what impacts it can have on your tuition and fees assessment as well as financial aid. Detailed information can be found on the Full-Time/Half-Time Enrollment page. Refer to the Academic Calendar for all deadlines by session. View the Tuition & Fees responsibility table.
