Directory Information

Student Information

The University of Iowa defines public and directory information as data about a student that would not generally be considered harmful or an invasion of privacy if disclosed. This information may be disclosed without a student’s written consent, unless the student has opted to restrict access. To better align with institutional privacy and data stewardship practices, student information is now categorized into three levels of access

Authenticated Access Contracted Institutional Partners Public Information

Authenticated Access

Individuals with an active HawkID and password (e.g., current students, faculty, and staff logged into university systems). This information is available on the online directory, unless a student suppresses their information

Programs of Study (majors, minors, certificates, classification, degree objective)
UI Email Address (@uiowa.edu)
HawkID

Contracted Institutional Partners

External entities with a formal, contracted business relationship with the University of Iowa (e.g., via Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), Data Sharing Agreement (DSA), or other agreements that benefit the institution).

Contracted Institutional Partners may access all information available to Authenticated Users plus additional directory information not available to the general public, including:

Residing Phone Number
Residing Address

They also have access to all information listed under the Public Information category.

Public Information (Subject to Open Records Requests)

General public. This information may be requested under Iowa’s Open Records law. The University is not obligated to release it and may decline requests based on context or student privacy concerns.

Dates of Attendance
Full-time/Part-time Enrollment Status
Degrees, Certificates, Honors, Scholarships, and Awards Received (excluding monetary amounts)
Participation in Officially Recognized University Activities and Sports
Height and weight of athletic team members
Student Employment Information (Job Title, Employing Department, Work Phone Number, Work Address)
Most recent previously attended educational institution
