Iowa Board of Regents Approval

The Iowa Board of Regents is responsible for establishing fees and charges at the Regent institutions, such as tuition, mandatory fees, miscellaneous charges, room and board rates for university residence systems, application fees, and parking rates. Certain exceptions do apply.

Tuition and fees are approved by the Iowa Board of Regents. Tuition and fees are subject to change without notice. Fall and spring semester tuition and fees are based on credit load at 5:00 p.m. on the 10th day of class. This is the last day for adjustments downward in tuition and fee assessment.

Tuition

In addition to the Tuition and Fee Tables there are other tools available to help estimate the cost of attending the University of Iowa.

Rate Tables

Rate tables are based on collegiate enrollment and program of study.

Tuition Calculator

Tool to give students estimates on the total cost for a semester with room and board.

Cost Estimator

Admissions has a tool to estimate the cost for first-year undergraduates and others.

Fees

There are other fees that may be assessed on the student's U-Bill. Some of these fees are one-time fees assessed at admission; others may be assessed each semester depending on the student’s status, enrollment date, courses taken, and if the student is living in University Housing.

Common and University/Program Specific Fees

UI students may be assessed fees that are not assessed via the tuition and fee rate tables, mandatory fees, or course fees.

Course Fees

Course Fees are assessed when the proposed fee results in enhancement of the educational experience beyond that ordinarily provided.

Mandatory Fees

Most students are assessed mandatory fees that help pay for the facilities and services available to them. Mandatory fees are based on the student's program of study, not on the student's use of facilities or services.

Fees Glossary and Archives

Description of various fees and archived fees of previous years.

Tuition Assessment and Appeals

Tuition Assessment

Tuition is typically based on enrolled credit hours but there may be circumstances where tuition is assessed differently dependent on student status.

Tuition and Fee Appeals

There can be instances when tuition or certain fees can be appealed if students meet specific criteria.
