What Is Academic Rebound?

Students may encounter challenges that affect their academic performance, including academic, personal, financial, health, or other circumstances. When a student’s performance falls below their college’s required standards, students engage in the Academic Rebound process. This supportive process is designed to help them understand collegiate expectations, identify challenges affecting their success, and create a plan for improvement.

A key feature of Academic Rebound is the focus on support and intervention. Students work closely with academic advisors and other university professionals to develop individualized success plans.

Student Support

Depending on a student's needs, support may include:

  • Academic coaching and workshops
  • College Success Initiatives (CSI) courses
  • Tutoring and learning support
  • Well-being and mental health resources
  • Career exploration and decision-making support
  • Financial literacy and financial wellness resources
  • Referrals to additional campus services and program

College-Specific Academic Policies

The Academic Rebound framework generally includes academic standing statuses such as Academic Notice, Academic Warning, and Restored to Good Standing. These statuses communicate a student's academic standing in their primary college and the steps needed to remain enrolled and make progress toward degree completion.

While Academic Rebound provides a shared university-wide framework and common language, academic standards, GPA thresholds, progression requirements, appeal procedures, and specific interventions may differ by college and academic program. These differences may reflect unique curricular requirements, accreditation standards, licensure expectations, and other program-specific considerations.

Students should review the academic standards and policies that apply to their college and program of study. Please direct questions to the appropriate collegiate office contact.
