Changes in Registration Process Fall 2020 - alternate instructions due to courses being virtual or online

When initial registrations, adds, drops, section changes, and/or hours changes cannot be processed in MyUI, they can be processed through the UI Service Center. The course deadline look-up provides course specific deadlines.

Examples of changes that require processing through the service center, use the Changes in Registration Process Fall 2020 instructions to process

  • Deadline for making changes in MyUI has passed 
  • Course closed in MyUI and no waitlist to join
  • Administrative registration only course – Course is required and cannot be dropped or added online, contact instructor or department.
  • Special permission required to register for a course - Contact the instructor or the department for permission. 
  • Excess hours registration – Student is registered for the maximum credit hours allowed and cannot add any additional hours. If student does not plan to drop any hours, they must appeal at their collegiate dean's office to add excess hours. If approved, and permission for excess hours is entered in the system, the student should submit an Add request using the Changes in Registration Process Fall 2020.
  • Need to drop and add a course at the same time to maintain full-time enrollment. Use the Changes in Registration Process Fall 2020.

Semester/session has ended - If change is for a semester/session that has ended, please begin the process at your collegiate dean’s office.

Initial Registration (adding your first course for the semester/session) when MyUI is closed

Please follow Changes in Registration Process Fall 2020.

Required permissions to initial register (add your first course): Advisor and instructor. Advisor permission is not required for students who are admitted to the Tippie College of Business. 

After last day to add without dean approval, students must also obtain appropriate dean's signature. The course deadline look-up provides course specific deadlines.

  • Undergraduates: Degree- and nondegree-seeking students need dean of college that the course is offered in.  
  • Graduates: Degree- and nondegree-seeking students need dean of Graduate College.
  • Professional: Need dean of college student is enrolled in.

 Add courses MyUI is closed

Please follow Changes in Registration Process Fall 2020 and obtain required permissions.

Required permissions to add: Advisor and instructor permission. Advisor is not required for students who are admitted to the Tippie College of Business.

Courses that have a section number which contains 0EX are managed by Distance and Online Education (DOE). Please visit the DOE website for other available options to submit adds once MyUI has closed. These options are only for courses with an 0EX section.

Drop courses when MyUI is closed

Removing all courses from your schedule (even if only registered for one course) is considered a withdrawal of registration. Please see withdraw information for instructions on how to proceed.

MyUI remains Open for Drops through the last day of the semester/session.

Beginning the 6th day of the fall/spring semester or the 1st day of summer/winter session when MyUI has closed for changes in registration (adds, hours changes, and section changes) students may still drop courses online by obtaining required permissions.

To drop online the student should:

  • Log-in to MyUI
  • Click on Courses/Registration in the yellow banner or on the Courses/Registration tile below
  • Click the drop link next to the course you wish to drop.
  • Read the message and click continue if you wish to proceed
  • Read and follow instructions regarding required permissions needed, warnings, and deadlines.

Required permissions replace the need for a written signature. Instructor permission is no longer required to drop a course.

  • The student should understand the consequences of this drop. If not they should contact their advisor.
  • Once consequences are understood click the blue button and proceed with obtaining the required permissions.
  • Students may check back as often as they need (click drop link again) to see which permissions have been obtained and if any are still needed.
  • Once all permissions have been obtained the student will receive an email and MyUI message letting them know they can process the drop.
  • Log-in and click on drop link, review and understand warnings, consequences, and deadlines
  • Click green drop button
  • Course will be removed from your registration

Deadline Days - 4:30 pm is the cut-off time for obtaining any permissions on deadline days. The student has until 11:59 pm to process the drop in MyUI if they have obtained all required permissions by 4:30 pm. The Course Deadline look-up provides course specific deadlines.

It will be the student’s responsibility to obtain the required permissions and to understand any consequences that may happen by processing the drop. Information regarding permissions and consequences will be posted on MyUI but the student should contact their advisor with any questions.

MyUI will close for drops at 11:59 pm the last day of the semester/session.

This online option to drop is not available for a semester/session that has ended.

Drop using Change of Registration Process Fall 2020 when drop is not possible in MyUI

Required permissions to drop: Advisor  - Instructor is not required. Advisor permissions is not required for students who are admitted to the Tippie College of Business. 

Additional permission required for International students – ISSS permission is required to drop a course if it has begun regardless of the start date of the course. 

Additional permission required for Athletes – Athletics permission required from your Athletic Academic Coordinator, (319 335-9384), to drop a course in any semester or any session that has begun regardless of the start date of the course.

After last day to drop without dean approval students must also obtain appropriate dean signature. The course deadline look-up provides course specific deadlines. 

  • Undergraduates: Degree- and nondegree-seeking students need dean of college that the course is offered in.  
  • Graduates: Degree- and nondegree-seeking students need dean of Graduate College.
  • Professional: Need dean of college student is enrolled in.

Section change when MyUI is closed

If student needs to remain in an enrolled course, but change the meeting time or the instructor for that course, the student should follow Change in Registration Process Fall 2020.

Required permission for a section change: The instructor of the new section must give permission. No other permissions are required as long as the change is processed before semester/session has ended.

If student is also making an hours change in combination with the section change, additional permissions are required. See “Section and Hours change courses when MyUI is closed”.

If student needs to remain in an enrolled course, but increase or decrease credit hours for that course, the student should follow instructions for obtaining permissions using the Change of Registration Process Fall 2020 The course deadline look-up provides course specific deadlines

Increasing hours

Required permissions for hours change: Advisor and instructor. Advisor permission is not required for students who are admitted to the Tippie College of Business.

Increasing hours after last day to add without dean approval, students must also obtain appropriate dean signature. The course deadline look-up provides course specific deadlines.

Decreasing hours (except to zero or audit):

Required Permissions for hours change: Advisor and instructor. Advisor permission is not required for students who are admitted to the Tippie College of Business.

Additional permission required for International students – ISSS permission required for decreasing hours if the course has begun regardless of the start date of the course that hours are being decreased in. 

Additional permission required for Athletes – Athletics permission required from your Athletic Academic Coordinator, (319 335-9384), for decreasing hours in any semester or in any session that has begun regardless of the start date of the course that hours are being decreased in.

Audit (hours change to zero credit hours):

Reduced Credit Tuition - Information for tuition and fee assessment for audits.

Required permissions for hours change: Advisor and instructor. Advisor signature is not required for students who are admitted to the Tippie College of Business.

Undergraduates – Dean’s permission required after last day to add without dean approval. The course deadline look-up provides course specific deadlines. 

  • Undergraduates: Degree- and nondegree-seeking students need dean of college that the course is offered in.  

Graduates and Professional students - Dean’s permission required after last day to drop without dean permission. The course deadline look-up provides course specific deadlines. 

  • Graduates: Degree- and nondegree-seeking students need dean of Graduate College.
  • Professional: Need dean of college student is enrolled in.

If student needs to remain in an enrolled course, but increase or decrease credit hours for that course and also change the meeting time or the instructor for that course, the student should follow Change of Registration Process Fall 2020 abd request both a seciton and an hours change. Permissions needed should follow those for an hours change.
