Duplicate Diplomas

How do I get a duplicate diploma?

1. Send a notarized statement confirming your identity;

2. Send a $45 check payable to The University of Iowa;

3. Please indicate the address to which the diploma should be mailed.

The notarized statement protects the confidentiality of your records, and the fee covers the cost of printing. [Only if the request is being made from abroad: the notary requirement is waived.]

Please indicate your full name, social security number or student ID number, degree received, and date (month and year) the degree was awarded.

Your name on the diploma will appear as it does on your UI student records unless you submit a name change request with the required documentation. All duplicate diplomas will have the notation "Duplicate diploma issued" with the issue date in the lower left corner.

Please allow up to a week following the receipt of your request, for the new diploma to be sent.

To obtain a certified copy of a University of Iowa diploma:

Graduates sometimes request a duplicate diploma when a certified copy of their diploma would serve their purposes. This kind of documentation is often used for licensing boards, etc.

You must have your original UI diploma in order to obtain a certified copy.

A certified copy is a photocopy of an existing diploma printed on security paper, notarized, and embossed with the University of Iowa's seal.  If you have your UI diploma and will send us a clear photocopy, we can create certified copies for you. There is no charge for up to 5 certified copies, and they will be mailed to you approximately two working days after we receive your request.
